post 4th of july doggylogue…

so, leading up to the fourth of july holiday, mave and lucy decided to take off and go for a swim…

the thelma and louise of the doggy set...

the thelma and louise of dogs…

where did they go?  who knows?  despite the stern questioning and talking-to given by hubbkf, they wouldn’t say.  i’ve given up on the questions and just go for the lecture since they never answer anyways.  we’re thinking they headed for the mn river which is located over the hill next to our house…they’ll jump in an overflowing river, but two inches of water in the bathtub terrify them…dogs, who knows what goes on in those little brains!

soggy but cute maeve

soggy but cute maeve

when maeve thought hubbkf wasn’t looking, she let down the tough bitch act…

you just want to squeeze her, don’t you?  but she was pretty stinky…

shortly after this escapade, i found my missing eyeglasses…my good ones, mind you, that i had to pay out the nose for…they were on maeve’s window sill where she placed them after nabbing them off the coffee table.  at least she didn’t chew on the lenses, just the sides…i’m fashion forward enough to think i can get away with wearing slighty chewed on frames…

this isn't the first time i've thought about stuffing her in the trunk...

this isn’t the first time i’ve thought about stuffing her in the trunk…

so this leads us to the fourth…we humans were northward bound for the weekend…maeve attempted to stow away with the rest of the luggage, but unfortunately her color scheme was not conducive to such…

post-op puppy…

pretty pitiful...

pretty pitiful…

maeve went in and got spayed today…she also got her hair cut and her nails trimmed…

poor girl…she has a hard time navigating with her c.o.s. on…our house is pretty little, so she tends to ram into things…worst thing of all (and we have not told her this yet) is no running in the woods for at least 10 days…if you think she looks pathetic now, just wait…

pretty stinkin’ good day…

i am pretty stoked right now…went to goodwill and got a bright yellow evan picone peacoat (which i would post pictures of if my stupid pantech jest phone would let me) for $8…i also purchased my first pair of yoga pants ever…i hear they are the ultimate in comfort whether you yoga or not, so we’ll see…also going out tonight to hear a mostly female band called ‘me’ which stands for maneater…

right now i’m also hanging out with the son and his awesome girlfriend…sitting outside on a gorgeous fall day…pretty much a perfect day!

my plane better not crash tomorrow or this excellent day will have been for naught…

(especially since i’m going to meet up with a pretty cool chick (who i only know from her blog) for brunch tomorrow once i hit chicago…)

maeve kicking back

maeve kicking back…

so, this is what maeve and hubbkf do a lot of apparently while i am gone…perhaps this perpetuates maeve’s annoying habit of waking us up at 4:30 a.m. and barking until we come downstairs…just because she’s awake and bored…we usually take turns at this early morning wake-up and i will give hubbkf kudos because he takes more than i do…this morning he was up with her at 5:30…i went down at about 5:45 after he came back to bed…it makes here insanely happy to have somebody to play with…we played  a couple of rounds of ‘bite mommy’s hand!’, ‘who’s got your tail?!’ and the ever popular, never-ending all time-favorite ‘in-or-out, in-or-out’ in which she can not make up her damn mind about whether she wants to be in (‘playing bite mommy’s hand!’) or out (‘snuffle my little yellow frisbie along the ground because i don’t have opposable thumbs’)…then she took a wee little catnap but by then i was wide awake…i hate early mornings…but i did some writing, so that’s good…i have to learn how to hate early morning less and play more insanely like maeve…

look what i got…

i'm in love...

i’m in love…

this is what happens when i am left unattended at a trade show…hooterville had their annual ‘sports and leisure’ show over the weekend…through a series of phone pics and frenzied texts to hubbkf this little girl, who is a cocker spaniel/lab mix, came home with me…we have still to name her…our naming process goes like this:

me:  how about (names of 9,000 names)?

hubbkf: no

me:  why don’t you think of any?

hubbkf:  why rush into things?

well, this morning i decided we DO need to get this little bitty a name…she has prodigious output and i would like to be able to use a name when i am yelling at her not to pee and/or poop on the floor…

so, my contenders are aibhlinn (ave-leen) which means ‘wished for’ or ‘longed for child’ (sad, i know…but i am never going to get grandkids), maeve which means ‘great joy’ or ‘she who brings intoxication’ or maddin which means ‘little dog.’   jaxsie is also in the running because her butt has some pretty interesting markings…she kinda looks like she’s wearing short pants…

anyhoo…glad you got to meet the newest member of the fambly…

hubbkf gets off a good one…

so, here’s a text-versation from today…

me:  i need to put a sign outside my door that tells people i have nothing to do with their hearing aid needs…

hubbkf:  what?

me:  gina the hearing aid lady is here today so i get all sorts of people popping into my office with their hearing aids…

hubbkf:  that was a joke

3 photos = supreme joy…

tonight, i am going to:

morris theatre...

morris theatre…

to see this:

my french accent sucks so i just go with 'les mis'...

with this girl:

aidertots

not only am i beyond excited to finally, finally see the movie, i will get my first peek inside the morris theater.  it’s pretty new…built in 1937-40 or so, but at the time it was the cat’s pajamas or some such since it was to be an

811 seat theatre building that would include three large apartments, two retail spaces, a luxurious lobby, and all the latest moviehouse features of the day.

and also, too…

The stage was large enough for vaudeville productions and dressing rooms were located in the basement. In the balcony there was a special “crying room” according to the Tribune, where “parents of fretful children might take the youngsters and still be able to see and hear the show though other patrons will be undisturbed.”

sadly, the theater struggled in later years and either closed or was on the brink of closing (i forget).   a group of people formed a co-op, raised some funds and bought the building.  renovation and preservation is in the works…wish we could have done the same for our lovely, local orpheum theater
