inauguration post…pride and prejudice edition

yes, i know people live in other areas of the world where they are not used to colder temps…and being a native minnesotan, i know we’re a pretty hardy (fool, perhaps) bunch and can take it…so it really, really annoys me when the weather channel personnel go on and on about how frigging cold it is in d.c. today and actually, it’s more like this…but, wevs…at least mike bettes gave stephanie abrams a bunch of crap for being whiny and wearing heat wraps…especially when mike seidel got to do this:

i can't feel my face!!!

i can’t feel my face!!!

yes, i clearly watch too much of the weather channel…you’re just noticing this now?

what does this actually have to do with the inauguration?  well, there has been a certain amount of whining the past four years about the usurper in the white house, who in case you didn’t know, is worse than about roughly one thousand hitlers, stalins, mussolinis, pol pot, chairman mao, franco, marx, trotsky, lenin and pinochet COMBINED…no easy feat, mind you…especially when he has all those free cell phones to give away…not to be outdone by her husband, though, you may have heard that michelle is possibly worse than nero…or caligula…not sure which, but hey…we have four more years to find that out!

yeah, things have been pretty crappy in the good ol’ us of a…but most people can put it in perspective as the natural order of things…feast and famine, so to speak.  some, however, are never going to get over the fact that there is currently a blah person in the white house and will continue to be most aggreived over the fact that our sheriff is a ni*clang*!

in the days leading up to another historic inauguration (cuz, rilly, who thought he’d get re-elected?  certainly not these guys) there has been some seriously bizarre butthurt over the continuing reign of dear leader, the kenyan usurper, king obama the first by guys like bobo wens* who somehow think it’s way more patriotic to outline how domestic terrorism can easily be achieved, than it is to be introspective, reflect for a while and say, ‘hmmmm…i certainly don’t like that guy in the white house or what he stands for, but i sure do love my country, how can i best effect what i consider to be positive change and get the guys that i like better elected to positions where they can do the most good?’  this usually isn’t answered by thoughts of crippling the power grid…and yes, i know words such as ‘introspective’ and ‘bob owens’ shouldn’t be used in close proximity…

once again, i find myself annoyed and frustrated by my fellow americans…even last weekend while bartending, i overheard a discussion about free cell phones, how welfare people are screwing us over and always will because they ‘never see their dad going to work…much less know who their dad is…’ i’m pretty sure that discussion was totally not racist whatsoever…

but i am still pollyanna-sh enough to to be buoyed by today’s inaugural celebration…chuck schumer’s comparisons to abe lincoln’s america, and when bronco said this:

Being true to our founding documents does not require us to agree on every  contour of life; it does not mean we will all define liberty in exactly the same  way, or follow the same precise path to happiness.  Progress does not  compel us to settle centuries-long debates about the role of government for all  time – but it does require us to act in our time.

i really want to scream:  so get the fuck over it already…the world changes…we grow, we learn from the past yet we do stupid things, we do amazing things, we progress, our values change as we confront new wrongs to right…this isn’t 177 fucking six anymore…so deal with it…

so, yeah…fox news, the confederate yankee, wnd, stacy mccain, glenn beck…all you fear mongers and fomentrs of division:  this is still your president, the democrats are in the catbird seat and you’ve got four more years to get through…you might want to start catching up to the rest of us…

since he’s so much more eloquent, i’ll let e.b. white have the last word:

It is presumably our duty to comply with such a request, and it is certainly our pleasure. Surely, the board knows what democracy is. It is the line that forms on the right. It is the don’t, in don’t shove. It is the hole in the stuffed shirt through which the sawdust slowly trickles; the dent in the high hat. Democracy is the recurrent suspicion that more than half of the people are right, more than half of the time. It is the feeling of privacy in the voting booths; the feeling of communion in the libraries; the feeling of vitality everywhere. Democracy is the letter to the editor. Democracy is the score at the beginning of the ninth. It is an idea which hasn’t been disproved yet; a song, the words of which have not gone bad. It’s the mustard on the hot dog, and the cream in the rationed coffee. Democracy is a request from a War Board – in the middle of the morning, in the middle of a war – wanting to know what democracy is.

okay…i lied…gotta give props because, wow…michelle and beyonce?  bringin’ it…

not wusses...

not wusses…

We’re getting that arctic blast now- it’s just a matter of dressing in layers and slathering some Jergens on the old nose. I’ve been working graveyards, so I slept through the inauguration, but the schadenfreude is delicious!

today should be the last of it for us…since i didn’t want to ruin the good vibes i had going yesterday about the inauguration, i didn’t even check out the blogosphere to read the butthurt, criticism and sour grapes that i’m sure were rampant…maybe today…
